We are learning to discuss maths ideas - Lunchbox Maths


Lunchbox Maths

We unpacked the big boxes that were full of lunchboxes.
Before we opened the boxes we guessed how many lunchboxes would be inside.
We peeped inside and we noticed there were 6 on the top layer and 3 layers altogether.
Mackenzie calculated 6+ 6 is 12 and 6 more is 18.




We emptied all the lunchboxes and checked the number of lunchboxes..

We sorted the lunchboxes by colour.
There were the same number of blue and neon-red lunchboxes.
There were 8 green and purple lunchboxes.
We would need 4 more green lunchboxes to match the number of neon-red 
lunchboxes.





We are learning to identify the letter sounds - A is for apples

Our apple tree has a good crop of apples.
We thought of adjectives to describe our apples.
We created signs asking people to leave our apples - they are not quite ripe yet!

We are learning about the "th" sound.


Th is for one thousand!

               First we counted groups of 10.
               Then we counted groups of 100 because 10 groups of 10 is 100.
               Then we counted a group of 1000 because 10 groups of 100 is 1000.



                     We made and ate yummy 100s and 1000s fairy bread!

WALT skip by practising and trying hard.



We read the story Keep Trying.  If we wish to learn we need to have a go and keep trying.
We are having a go at skipping.

Mackenzie
When I skip you need to hold the rope properly and after I skip I feel exhausted.  I skip at home and at school because I have a skipping rope at home.


Brydee
At home I have practised skipping with my sparkly, light-up skipping rope.
I am really good at skipping because I practise. I am proud of myself.


Noah
I hold the skipping rope properly.  When the rope comes to my legs i jump the rope.  I spin the rope.  I feel puffed when I skip but it gives me exercise.


Solomon
I am getting better every time I skip.  Good skippers have their arms out beside their bodies.


Thomas
I am getting good at skipping because i have practised a lot.


Skye
I can skip forwards. It is fun, very very fun.  So now I can skip at home.


Flynn
I get puffed when I am skipping.


Jackie
I hold my skipping rope wide.


Aroha
I really like skipping.  I keep trying.

I can skip with an orange rope.

I jump over the skipping rope forwards and backwards.

WALT talk about heat energy



Energy Everywhere

Ruma G explored what heat energy does to popcorn.

We observed and recorded what happened when the popping corn was placed in the popcorn maker.

Then we ate the popcorn - yum!









We observed and discussed what happens when different materials are placed in hot water.
A wooden, plastic and metal spoon were placed in a bowl of hot water.
We predicted which spoon would be the hottest.
Which spoon do you think was the hottest?
