Mixed up animals!

Yesterday was Pet Day at school, so we kept thinking about animals today.

What if we mixed animals up? A woofing cat! A mooing chicken! A tweeting fish!

We had fun inventing mixed up animals.

Then we read the story, "The Big Animal Mix-Up" By Gareth Edwards. It was funny to see the funny mixes he made!

To practise our fine motor skills, we carefully cut out and coloured some animal shapes. Then it was time to put them together to make new funny animals.

Check out some of our amazing new animals!

In library time, we read "Who's for Dinner" by Claire Freedman. In this book, the animals tricked the fox by pretending to be other animals, so they were mixed up too!

Scrambled Eggs

Today we made scrambled eggs.

First, we cracked some eggs into cups.

We mixed the eggs and added some milk.

Then we put the eggs and mixed milk in the hot pan.

We had butter in the pan to stop them sticking.

We stirred the eggs so they would cook and not burn.

Then we ate them!

Georgie said her eggs were yummy.

Veja liked her scrambled eggs.

Louis, Eli, Oscar, Cooper and Callum didn't like their eggs - they put too much salt on them!

Indi said her eggs were delicious.

Leighton said his eggs tasted like they were chocolate eggs and he put a lot of salt on them because he likes them that way.

Angus just didn't like his eggs.

Bruce said his eggs were yummy.

Leo liked his eggs.

Making Pancakes!

We made pancakes today.

First, we all washed our hands very carefully.

Then we got our ingredients. Each group needed 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and 1 egg.

We mixed them together well.

We then watched butter melting in the pan and noticed how it melted.

When we poured the pancake mix in the pan, we watched how it bubbled.

Time to flip the pancake over! We did this carefully and saw how it had gone brown.

When all the pancakes had been cooked, we could choose what we wanted on top - syrup or jam.

Eating them was yummy, scrummy FUN!

Dot Art

In Moana, we are learning about communication. We talked about how people used to paint pictures in caves, and we looked at Aboriginal art.

We tried some of our own dot art too. Aren't the pictures wonderful? You can see the care we took with them.

Many ways to make 10

Look at all the ways we can make groups that equal ten!

Yesterday we made a video of our groups.

Today we looked at some of the patterns we saw in the video and wrote them as numbers. Lots of clever thinkers in Moana!

Sound Sorting Machines

We were computer programmers today, using sorting machines to sort out which things made the loudest and softest sounds from pictures we had cut out.

First, we cut out pictures of things in magazines that made noise.

Then we put six pictures at a time through a sorting machine. This helped us decide how to put them in order, from softest to loudest. Some were tricky decisions - what is louder out of a person breathing or water in a lake? What about children playing on a bed or children playing in a bathtub?

When our six pictures were sorted, we glued them in order on strips of paper.

We also drew sound representations of our own. Do you see how they go from soft to loud? The children were creative and showed this in many ways.

We stayed in sorting moods for Maths afterwards, sorting out shapes in many different ways.
